OVERVIEW:
Street Rod Builder was published by Buckaroo Publishing and John Dianna. Dianna was a successful executive at Petersen
Publishing, but when Petersen was sold to Primedia in the early 2000s he left to form his own company. Buckaroo owned a number of other titles including
Rodders Digest and
Super Rod. More on
John Dianna can be found here.
This was in all respects a high quality magazine and one of the best in this time period. It was a slick publication with anywhere from 100 to 140 pages of content. It was launched simultaneously with Super Rod, where this title focused on pre-1948 traditional hot rods and customs while the other focused on cars from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Street Rod Builder featured technical articles and how-to's with an emphasis on builds a home hot rodder could do. Although high dollar feature cars were also included, the desire was to include them so builders could get design and current technology ideas and tips.
