OVERVIEW:
Ol' Skool Rodz (or OSR) was started in 2003 by Koolhouse Publishing and Geno DiPol. The magazine originally focused on the
"kulture lifestyle" and was oriented to a new generation of gearheads and their love of traditional hot rods and customs. It featured artwork, pin-ups
and lots of tatoos.
The title was purchased by Murphos Publishing in Buda, Texas in April 2019. Murphos also owns Car Kulture Deluxe, and both sister publications are produced bi-monthly in alternate months.
In its most current evolution, the magazine has shed most of the "kulture lifestyle" content and has become a straight-up hot rod and custom magazine. And though female models are still used, this is done much more tastefully and embraces "body positivity".
On January 8, 2024, Murphos announced the closure of both titles due to the ever rising cost of paper, ink, shipping, distribution, postage and currency exchange rates. The writing was on the wall when COVID hit and the publisher lost 70% of advertising revenue. But the owners pushed on valiantly and continued to create a very high quality publication right up to the end. This magazine, like many others who went before, will be missed.
