OVERVIEW:
Western Speed Sport magazine was published mostly monthly by Pierce Publishing in Fontana, California. Like other regional
drag racing titles in the early days of the sport, this one focused mostly on racing events in California and some in the Pacific Northwest.
Drag racing coverage was by venue - Irwindale, Lions, Stardust International, Fremont, Fontana, San Fernando, Long Beach, Palmdale and Ramona raceways. Content also included drag boat racing and hydro karts with good coverage of National Drag Boat Association (NDBA) events.
This was one of many titles started in either 1964 or 1965. Competition for readership and advertising dollars was fierce, and this title only lasted for a short period.
