OVERVIEW:
Bracket Racing USA magazine was owned by Stephen Schneider and CSK Publishing. It was published
from Saddle Brook, New Jersey. CSK had numerous other titles in its portfolio including:
Vette;
High Performance Pontiac;
Muscle Cars;
Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords;
Cars Illustrated; and,
High Performance Mopar.
The magazine started as a Cars Illustrated Special Edition publication, and numbering was interspersed with Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords which was launched at the same time. Per the editorial section, the official start of publication was with Volume 2 Number 1 in 1989. The first editor was Dale S. Wilson.
Many people say that bracket racing, the focus of this title, was the thing that saved drag racing. Drag racing in most other classes was extremely expensive, but bracket racing changed the game by allowing anyone to compete by driving against themselves and their estimated elapsed time. Many racing tips were developed and shared, and these are still discussed on blogs and other online forums today.
CSK really promoted the sport, and they often sponsored the start of the racing season with large events in the Northeast. Sometimes prize money would be as much as $30,000!!
All CSK Publishing titles were sold in 1997 to McMullen-Argus Publishing, a division of K-III Inc that was later renamed Primedia. The first cover with Primedia logos was in March, 1998. Primedia ended the title with the August, 1999 issue.

PUBLICATION DATA:
CSK Publishing provided net paid circulation data to The Standard Periodical Directory from 1991 through 2000. It reported the
number of annual print issues at 60,000 for each year except the final one when it was 43,700.
CONTENT COMPLETENESS:
Because of the rarity of early issues and the numbering scheme interspersed with Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, it has
been difficult to verify the early printed issues. And we are possibly missing volume 3 issues, but it is equally likely that this volume was
skipped entirely as it has not surfaced with the interspersed title.
Our estimate is 67 issues were printed. All images are complete.
INTERNET:
An internet presence was created and links added to the front covers starting in 1997. The site is now defunct: www.cskpub.com.
