OVERVIEW:
Drag Racer Magazine was started as a bi-monthly title by Y-Visionary Publishing and Chris Yee in 1997. It was
designed to feature action-packed, entertaining and in-depth content on the cars, personalities and events that make up the entire world of
drag racing. It also featured comprehensive "how-to" articles for both the enthusiast and professional, nostalgia racing and news
from the industry.
According to Pete Ward, the last editor of the magazine, the real driving force was Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen. He was involved from the beginning and was the motorsports director. He died in June, 2018, just a few months before the title ended. But he was supported by a large host of contributors who were the heart and soul of Drag Racer.
OWNERSHIP:
Y-Visionary was founded in 1996. Its first magazine was Drag Racer in 1997, and it was followed by
Street Trucks in 1999 and Import Racer in 2000.
Corporate offices were located in Orange, California.
Y-Visionary was acquired by Apprise Media in September 2005. Apprise was formed by Charles G. McCurdy, a former Primedia executive. All the automotive titles were managed by an Apprise organization called the Action Pursuit Group (APG).
Sometime in 2008, Apprise Media had also purchased Engaged Media and Beckett Media. A few years later, the Action Pursuit Group was moved under Beckett Media LLC.
