OVERVIEW:
High Tech Performance (HTP) was originally published by CSK Publishing in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. In 1993,
a group of CSK staffers - including Johnny Hunkins, Jim Resnick, D. Randy Riggs and Jim Campisano - decided to create a car magazine
about enhancing the performance of late model fuel-injected cars. These newer cars were fun to drive and provided great performance
value. Originally
wanting to cover EFI-powered vehicles from all manufacturers, this dream lasted a few short years.
All the titles of CSK Publishing were sold to a division of Primedia, McMullen-Argus. Many magazines were being consolidated under two major players - Primedia and the former Petersen Publishing empire which had become EMAP-Petersen. With this consolidation came a situation where each publisher had multiple titles covering the same general content and target readership. Some magazines disappeared, but other publishers chose to focus more carefully. So in September, 1998, HTP was re-titled to GM High Tech Performance (GMHTP) and shifted content to cars from General Motors.
