Motor Trend magazine was published by Motor Trend Publications Inc. with the first address at 548 S. San Vincente Blvd in Los Angeles. The original publishers were Robert E. Petersen and Robert R. Lindsay.
Its tag line was "The Magazine for a Motoring World". It was a large format title printed monthly and covered a broad swath of automotive topics - Detroit production and concept cars, European general purpose and sports cars, classic cars and other automotive topics of interest to the target reader.
The publisher provided net paid circulation data from 1951 up to the coverage period of this website 1975. Average monthly net paid circulation was 12,791 in 1951 and grew to 118,698 in 1975, for an annual growth factor of 7.7%.
It traded with Hot Rod for the #1 or #2 position through 1958 until Hot Rod completely controlled first place. Then Motor Trend traded the #2 and #3 positions back and forth with Car and Driver through at least 1997.
The magazine is still printed and published as of December 2019, but only images through 1975 are presently included. More images will be added as content is available.
