OVERVIEW:
Home Auto Mechanic, later Auto Mechanics, was published by Ziff-Davis Publishing Company
at 64 E. Lake St, Chicago, Illinois. The title was a monthly, full-sized magazine, and content focused on car
repairs, money saving tips to operate your vehicle, and how-to articles centered on the vehicle and garage such as carport construction. It was targeted
at readers who could do simple maintenance items, plus it offered tips on how to select a qualified mechanic.
With the August, 1956 issue, the title was changed to Auto Mechanics. How-to tips took on more advanced repairs and performance upgrades, including how-to body work articles. Home improvment content was dropped. This positioning lasted until the end of publication.
B.G. Davis was the publisher, and the staff included many notable editors and writers including Ken W. Purdy and Karl E. Ludvigsen. Ziff-Davis owned other titles in this time period including Sports Cars Illustrated.
