OVERVIEW:
The launch of this new title in 1987 was heralded as the "second coming of Speed Age". The original
title was published in Hyattsville, Maryland, from May, 1947 through December, 1953 by Don O'Reilly and Jimmy Quisenberry.
Jack Pelzer was the publisher of the resurrected title after a 35 year hiatus. He grew up in Los Angeles and loved motor racing and midget racing from the 1940s and 1950s. With editorial offices in Oxnard, California, he took a unique approach to content. He had current features on NASCAR, Indy, land speed racing and USAC sprint cars. But it also included re-published classic stories from the original Speed Age magazine. For example, the premier issue had articles on Johnnie Parson's Indy win in 1950 and coverage of the 1952 Pike's Peak race. The first issue even brought back the veteran Don O'Reilly for a feature article.
Veteran staff including Carol Anderson Sims as the editor, Craig Breedlove as the associate publisher, and Joe Henning, Jep Cadou, and Roger Huntington to name a few. Mr. Pelzer had managed such titles as Karting World, Custom Vans, Four Wheeler, and Cycle World. Ms. Sims had edited titles such as Open Wheel and Floyd Clymer's Indy 500 Yearbook.
It is unclear why the title ended so quickly, especially since the team included many experienced veterans of motor sport and publishing, We would love feedback from our readers to gain insights into this story!!

PUBLICATION DATA:
The publisher provided net paid circulation data to Oxbridge Communication's The Standard Periodical Directory in 1998 and
1999. Total annual print volume was reported as 38,000.
