Stock Car Racing was published by Circle Publishing Company in Alexandria, Virgina. John Reynolds was the publisher, and Jim Davis was the editor. This team also managed Super Stock & Drag Illustrated from the same address at 522 Pitt St, Alexandria Virginia.
The magazine started as a bi-monthly in May, 1966, but then switched to monthly in March, 1968. It covered all aspects of stock car racing in the United States. At the time, there were no other magazines devoted solely to this aspect of U.S. motor sports. Jim Davis sold his interest in the title in 1969, and John Reynolds sold the magazine to Lopez Publications in 1974. The magazine continued publication through 2008 and had several changes in ownership along the way.
The title was published continuously until 2008, but only images through 1987 are presently included.
