OVERVIEW:
Stock Car Racing covered all aspects of stock car racing in the United States. It started as a bi-monthly in May, 1966, but then switched to monthly in March, 1968. When it started, there were no other magazines devoted solely to this aspect of U.S. motor sports.

OWNERSHIP:
The title was created by Circle Publishing Company in Alexandria, Virgina. John Reynolds was the publisher, and Jim Davis was the editor. This team also managed Super Stock & Drag Illustrated from the same address at 522 Pitt St, Alexandria, Virginia.

Jim Davis sold his interest in the title in 1969, and John Reynolds later sold the magazine to Lopez Publications in 1974.

Lopez ran the title for many years, then sold it to General Media in June, 1990. General Media was owned by Bob Guccione Sr. who also owned Penthouse magazine.

EMAP-Petersen purchased the title and three others from General Media in February, 1998. The other titles were Four Wheeler, Open Wheel and Drag Racing Monthly.

EMAP-Petersen sold 60 titles including this one to Primedia. And then in May, 2007, Primedia sold all its assets to Source Interlink Media, which closed the title a year or so later.
