OVERVIEW:
Sports Car International magazine was a re-titling of Sports Car Illustrated.
Content was organized in three primary sections: driving impressions, feature articles and departments. Featured vehicles were performance
cars including sport cars and sedans, hot hatches and supercar exotica. Although vehicles might be manufactured anywhere, they typically came from the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy or Japan.
Other content sections included articles of interest to readers such as designer or driver interviews, racing results and historical vehicles.
Publishing was on a monthly schedule until October, 1995 when it went to a bi-monthly format and remained to the end of print.
OWNERSHIP:
Both this title and its predecessor title, Sports Car Illustrated, were formed by Dale Naef and Frank Fittanto in
Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1988, they sold the title to Ken Field of Itasca, Illinois who owned Continental Web Press. Editorial and executive offices were moved from Atlanta to
Newport Beach, California at 3901 Westerly Place.
Hollis Hedrich was the publisher after the ownership change, and he oversaw the name change to Sport Car International in 1989. He stayed with the title and helped transition ownership to the new publisher, SCI Publishing Inc when it was formed in 1992. The publishing address changed to Navato, California, and the new owner and publisher was Tom Toldrian. There were multiple editors including Mark Ewing and D. Randy Riggs.
