OVERVIEW:
Fabulous Mustangs and Exotic Fords (FM&EF) was published by Argus Publishing Corporation in Los Angeles, California. Argus
also developed and/or acquired such titles as Street Rodder, Popular Customs and
Popular Hot Rodding.
George Elliott was the publisher and editorial director, and the first editor was Pete Pesterre. Other editors included Jeff Tann and Matt Hardesty.
The magazine began as an annual publication, went to quarterly, then became bi-monthly in June, 1984. Similar to Mustang Monthly, it had very strong restoration content. But it also included modified Mustangs and featured other Ford powered vehicles like Cobras, GT40s, etc. The magazine had excellent technical and how-to articles, and like all automotive magazines included feature articles and vehicles.
It is uncertain why the magazine folded in 1993. Ford was on the cusp of introducing the SN95 Mustang to replace the Fox body, and competitor titles saw the opportunity to embrace the new Mustang in their content. There is no publishing data to prove this, but we suspect the other Mustang titles -- Mustang Monthly, Mustang Illustrated, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords and Mustang & Fords -- were all financially stronger.

PUBLICATION DATA:
The publisher provided net paid circulation data to Oxbridge Communication's The Standard Periodical Directory from
1988 through 1994 (for the 1993 reporting year). Annual print volume ranged from 128,000 to 143,100.
CONTENT COMPLETENESS:
A total of 65 issues were printed from 1981 through December, 1993. All cover images are complete.
