OVERVIEW:
Car Classics was published bi-monthly starting in 1966 by Ames Publishing Company in Tarzana, California. The magazine
focused on the hobby of collecting classic, antique and nostalgia cars. Articles covered the history of marques, restoration tips,
auction reviews and legal advice.
OWNERSHIP:
The original editor and publisher was Robert F. Ames of Ames Publishing. He also started titles such as
Four Wheeler and
Western Treasures.
Mr Ames then sold Car Classics to Nationwide Publishing in December, 1971. Frank Taylor was the editor, and Nationwide held the title until April, 1972. It was then sold to Krause Publications, and Mr Taylor continued as editor. In October, 1976, the last owner became Car Classics Publishing which carried on the bi-monthly printing cadence continuously until January, 1979. It was then folded into Car Collector magazine to become Car Collector and Car Classics.
Under Krause Publications ownership, the editor Frank Taylor produced a handful of yearbooks which can be found HERE.
