OVERVIEW:
The U.S. oil embargo of November, 1973 hastened the interst and adoption of smaller, more fuel efficient cars by the American car
buying public. There was already an established publication for imported cars,
Popular Imported Cars, but several titles emerged in 1974.
This one, Imported Car Performance, was published by Harry Egner and his Popular Publications organization. The editor was Fred Mackerodt, and content covered new car reviews, buying tips, and general topics of imported car interest.
Popular Publications entered the muscle car arena in 1974 with two other titles: Chevy Action and Hi-Performance Cars which it purchased from Magnum-Royal Publications.
