OVERVIEW:
Kit Car Builder was a National Kit Car Club magazine published bi-monthly from Castle Rock, Colorado by publisher
Dan Campbell and editor Jim Youngs. Mr. Youngs was the editor of Kit Car
for 10 years, and he along with marketing director Steve Temple both had stints at Petersen Publishing. Both left when Petersen titles were sold to Primedia's
McMullen-Argus division in 2001.
The magazine was given to those who joined the club, and it appears to have also been available on newsstands. Other member benefits at the inception included discounted insurance, discounted pricing from major kit car components providers, and access to exclusive information on the website. At some point in its history, the magazine was sold to Mr. Temple who ran it under the company name SCT Communications Inc. The title went digital in 2014.
Like most kit car magazines, content included feature cars, some technical information and tons of vendor and supplier ads and information. Featured vehicles included a heavy dose of Cobras, Miata-powered cars, super cars, English sports cars, Porsches and occasionally a pre-1948 hot rod.
