OVERVIEW
Sports Cars of the World is a sports car themed series of one-shot periodicals. It was published by Petersen (in general) or
as part of the either the
Motor Trend Performance Series (MTPS)
or the
Hot Rod Action Series (HRAS). The title was used in the early 1970s then resurrected for re-use in the 1980s by Petersen's
Specialty Publications Advertising Group.
In the 1980s, Petersen used these annual publications strategically to test reader interest of a given vehicle or topic and potentially use it as a launching pad for a bi-monthly or monthly title. This proved successful with several other titles but not with this one.
Note that the numbering is confusing, and this is because the title draws from different Petersen series.
